Doily Dollies.

In my hunt for ideas to use up some of the heirloom linen I have in my possession, I came across an idea for using old doilies. Well actually the pattern uses two circles of pretty fabric, but I instantly saw a use for my Grans old doilies.

I'm not sure of the provenance of this first piece. Mum assures me it was Grans.

A closer look at the stitching tells me it wasn't made by Gran. Unless it was a very early piece, or maybe it was made for her and she used it. It does have some staining and that tear in the edge, but I was able to hide those.
I also found a use for the smaller round doilies below.
The oval is now in use on my dressing table in our bedroom.
I used this tutorial to make use of these smaller heirloom pieces.
The pattern says to use two round pieces of fabric, but I didn't bother backing my doilies, I just went for it and they turned out fine. Having the finished edges made it possible.
They really did not take long at all to make.
I am delighted with them.
The only items I had to purchase were the big beads for their heads.
At this time I'm not sure what will become of them, for now I just want to enjoy their company. But in the future? Who knows?
I have one daughter, who remembers my Gran. And two daughters in law.
I also have three Grand daughters.
Two heirloom posts in one day!
I'm getting through them. And happy to be finding uses for them, rather than leaving them folded in a box.
