A couple of weeks ago Tony and I went out to the local museum. They had changed their exhibition for ANZAC day and Tony wanted to take a look.
These embroideries caught my eye. And Tony was particularly interested to see the machine gun battalion flag as it was his uncles battalion.
As well as the ANZAC exhibition we also had a look around the rest of the museum, it's only small and doesn't take long, but they sure pack in a good variety.
The tuatara sadly no longer live on mainland NZ, but can be found on protected islands.
Many people believe that Americans the Wright brothers were the first to fly. Locals here believe that it was a New Zealander who was the first to achieve powered flight.
There is a small exhibition about the early settlers and some of the things they brought with them.
Of course the sewing machine and cottons caught my eye too.
As I said it is only a small museum and were there for only a short time.

Small but interesting....I like museums. Have you been to the tuatara place in Invercargill?
Some beautiful embroidery there. The sewing machine looks interesting! xx
They sure have packed a lot of interesting things in their small museum.
It would have been an interesting place to visit. We always seem to be drawn to the textile exhibits. Thanks for sharing.
There always seems something new to see at a museum

Great little museum - I have read about Richard Pearse before and understood he was the first with powered flight, even if it was just across the cow paddock!!
Seems like an interesting museum and good reads. Now settling in back home to get back into some usual sewing.
