Day Two. And Two More Quilts!

Day two of three was another busy day. I got on with my chores early and then it was time to revisit 'that' drawer. I still didn't pull out any of those ready-made blocks. Instead, I was drawn to a small bundle of Kaffe squares, yes you guessed it, they came in a paper sack. LOL
There was also a small collection of my own Kaffe off cuts.
I played shuffle on the floor, but either had a one square gap, or had a few squares left over....
Then I remembered that I had a few pieces from a layer cake that had come to me when my neighbour Shelly was having a clear out. I fished about until I found them, selected one and cut out the last five inch square.

I kept the remaining layer cake slices handy for borders.

While I was sewing squares together, I noticed this black bird hopping about on the front lawn. I do love to see them busy, and this guy seemed to be getting a good feed.

Next, I fished about in my wee collection, hoping to find 'something'. There were some strips that could become an inner border, so long as you don't mind one of them being a quarter inch narrower than the rest!  That works for me. LOL

Then I set about cutting up a few more of those layer cake slices.

Sewed them on and by lunchtime, I had a Kaffe quilt top.

After some lunch I decided it was time to sit with some hand work.
I have a few WIPs I could choose from but opted to pull out the Kitchen Hutch. This piece came to me almost complete. It just needed a load of back stitch to pull out some of the details and one final cross stitched element.

I had already done some of that back stitch during lunch breaks at work.
Yesterday I completed it, then got busy with that final area of cross stitching.

Tada!
Another quilt.
And another completed cross stitch piece.

After tea I pulled out yet another of those mini cross stitch projects of which I seem to have so many.
I made a start. I hope to finish it later today.

During my afternoon stitching I took a break and wandered into the kitchen to make a pot of the tea.
Through the kitchen window I could see stormy skies, and I had already heard a few rumbles of thunder.  I had been watching the weather from my cosy armchair, but the view from the kitchen was rather alarming. The sky way out over the coast has a green tinge to it!

My camera did not capture how green it was. I watched while I waited for the kettle to boil, the clouds were roiling and boiling in all directions. Some moving up from the south, others appeared to be headed in from the west and then more moved down from the north. The flag just at the bottom of this image didn't seem to know which way to fly. Then I noticed some clouds seemed to be rolling themselves into a tube... I tried to capture that on video, but like my green skies, it just didn't seem to tell the whole story.
I later found out that not one, but two tornadoes had touched down just North of here.
Luckily, they were in open country and did little damage.
There were also huge hailstorms, they did cause damage.
I can't help but wonder if that tube of clouds I saw forming was the very beginnings of one of those tornadoes?
Though we have bright sunshine and calm skies at the moment the forecast says today could be even worse and more widespread storms
Good thing I don't need to go out anyplace and I have plenty of sewing to keep me busy.

You do get a lot of work done in your days off Lou. And those clouds do look ominous. I'm glad they did not cause damage at your place.
