Sewing and unsewing.....

The fabrics I ordered for the SSCS have arrived, and this morning I've had loads of fun playing with them. There were some frustrations too, hence the unsewing. That said, I got through much more than I thought I would. I'll get on and do a little more to that this afternoon.

You can't have a blog post without a picture, so I thought I would show off my latest acquisition! I went out yesterday looking for last minute supplies for the SSCS and this book leaped of the shelf and into my hands, begging for me to buy it.
I see some Christmas stockings in my future! LOL
Thanks for all the compliments for Katherine's wearable art, seen in my last post, I have forwarded all your comments to her, I'm sure she will be tickled.

Wearable Art.

Hows this for a school project? My lovely niece Katherine and her mum Lee have been very busy over the last few weeks. Lots of paper mache, polystyrene, glue and paint. Katherine had to produce some wearable art. As well as the costume she also had to produce a little narration to be read out as she is modelling her creation. As you can see in the photo, poor Katherine has been poorly with the flu, so her mum helped out with that too. Hopefully she'll be feeling much better for the show and tell at school.

What a sweet tooth’s delight Katherine H.... is, as a bright bowl of liquorice allsorts. It’s hard to believe, but these remnants from one of our local freezing works, has now come to life again.

Many hours have been spent, cutting, gluing and painting polystyrene cubes and the paper mache bowl.
Her most favourite piece – the real liquorice shoes (taste-testing included).

This is the first year this Year 7 student has entered the Wearable Arts, with inspiration coming from her Grandfathers jar of lollies on the lounge coffee table.

(In NZ Lollies aren't just sweeties on sticks, all sweeties/candy are called lolly) I think Katherine and Lee have done an amazing job.

Not What I Set Out To Do!

OK, so I went up to my den this morning with the plan to make binding for the Charming Stars. I've got this box of Figgy leftovers and was looking about in it, wondering if I could use it for the binding. Before I knew it I was making a table runner and have some more jellyslices cut ready to make place mats too!

Fickle thing, the crafters mind.......

Time to Bind it.

So, the other day, I found myself looking back in time through my blog, I'm really not sure how or why, but it happened. I realised that I started this quilt over a year ago. Over A Year!!! I know for some of you that is no big thing, and no, it's not the first project of mine which I've procrastinated over, but for some reason, that revelation gave me the kick up the bum I needed. This morning I put my already completed rows together, quilt as I go style. This afternoon I intend to close up the sashing strips on the back. (The method I'm using does this by hand) Then I just have to decide on what to bind with.
I have some yummy fig tree scraps which would work well, or does the busyness of the top require a plainer binding? I have more of the yummy buttery yellow which I used to sash the blocks.
In case you're wondering, this is a Moda Bake Shop pattern called 'Charming Stars' and the fabrics are pre cut charms of Fig Tree Quilts  'Gypsy Rose' and 'Dandelion Girl', with the odd piece of 'Mill House Inn' thrown in to make up numbers.

My back is sooo much better, it really has taken a leap over the last couple of days. Fingers crossed I may be able to go back to work next week. I'm due in the office on Wednesday then onto the floor on Thursday, so another whole week to recover. Thanks to everyone for the encouraging words and good wishes.

Right, I'm off to play.

A Finish!

Well I did it. I sat at my machine and I sewed. I think I stayed there a little longer than I should have.I'm sore, and when I finish here I'm off to my comfy chair.
'Making Spirits Bright' is a Birdhouse design. I brought the printed panel home from NZ in 2009.
And finally got around to stitching it. Look, I made Prairie points! My first ever. There was some swearing, and I admit to having to unpick more than once trying to get them under control.

I sat for a while earlier and looked through about half of the SSCS list posted on Chookys blog. I didn't stop to comment anywhere, you know me, I'm a better lurker than I am commenter, but it was nice to look around and see what people are stitching. And to see pretty spring flowers blossoming down under, especially as today is cold wet and horrible.

My cosy, comfy blanket and chair are calling to me.
