The road to Chookyblues. Is Dry...

So, if you follow her blog you will know that there has been no significant rain out Chookys way for about three years! And that showed all around.
As we headed in her direction the landscape became drier and drier.
For a Manxgirl like me, who grew up and lived for 45 years on an island that was so small you could get to one end from the other in about an hour, and if it doesn't rain for a few days, don't worry, it will rain next week!
It was quite humbling to visit such a huge country and to see just how dry it is.
Don't let those wee clouds fool you, they are only up there to tease us.
Just the tiniest reminders of what rain and cloud shade might be.
There was very little live stock to be seen and not much in the way of wildlife either.
There was however a great deal of artwork.
I fell in love with this bus stop.
 And the other side!
Janice often posts images of water towers on her blog, but I don't believe I have seen either of these two before.
The Kingfisher is amazing, it's difficult to see in my photo, but the tower represents a glass of water into which he is diving.
The next tower we saw depicted a flock of Galahs. We saw lots of those as we travelled the road to Chookyblues.
Finally after a whole day on the road we made it to Chookys place.
We were made most welcome and got to meet another familiar face.
Jules, no blog, is a regular face on Chookys blog and it was lovely to  meet her.
The following day I got to visit the chook shed! It was a very hot day at 35 C so too hot to stay out there, but we chatted for a while and looked at works in progress. Chooky has a quilting frame and uses the same machine as I have on mine. How did I not know this?  No pictures, sorry, bad blogger went outside to feed a lamb and ended up in a Chook shed without a camera!
Heat and dust aside, what a wonderful space. I do hope Chooky gets back out there soon to finish some of those wips.
Tony and Chookys husband Brian took off on a man trip, to see the property, feed the stock and do the sights man style.
Janice and I spent the rest of the day with Chooky, we tripped about seeing the surrounding town and countryside, while Chooky explained history and events. After a quick visit to the butchers and the supermarket we went back to Chookys for a BBQ dinner.
One more sleep under a beautiful quilt, then sadly it was time to leave.
I very much enjoyed my visit and would love to meet Chooky again.

Since we visited in October, there has been rain!
I talked with Chooky last night and she said they had had 34 mm of rain over the weekend. Nice soft gentle rain, the kind that soaks in, not the stuff that washes everything away. That's not much, but hopefully more will come, soon.

Yaay you finally got to Chooky's!! What a fabulous time you've had with Janice and her hubby plus Jules too. Just seeing drought photos leaves an enormous pit in my stomach and heart.....do hope they have some follow-up rain. That's a lovely photo of the three of you at the end of the post.

It is amazing how big this country is and how dry it can get. Good to know they have had some rain. Hope there is more to come.
