Concentric Wobbling!

Yesterday was a loooooooong day. It took me ages to pin the layers together, with two restarts! Then I figured I would be better off marking all the circles, so that took a while too. I started to quilt around my blue lines, the first two rounds were OK.

Then I came across a tuck, so I unquilted and re pinned! Then there was another tuck! So I unquilted and re pinned. Short story, I got totally fed up and there are three tucks on this quilt. All on the FRONT! The back is a little wavy, but fine and the front has tucks. Grrrr. My circles ended up a little wobbly in my efforts to ease out yet more tucks! LOL This morning I have wrestled with the borders, I managed to ease things so there are no tucks there, but I'll not celebrate that one until I get the binding on. All thread ends are tidied and snipped and the edges have had a final trim and the binding fabric is sat here looking at me, time to cut a bunch of strips.

I'll be glad when this one is finished.

Finished Top.

And here it is! This is the best picture I could get. Lynda suggested skirt hangers across a wardrobe, but I have a walk in /dressing room, so that wasn't going to work. With a little more effort, this will work just fine in future. ;-)

So my finished top. I did think about doing something more adventurous for that final border, but the math gave me a headache. LOL Then as I was stitching the pieces together I wondered if it would have been better without the neutrals, but I'm happy with this as it is. Once again, this picture was taken with a flash. The colours really are much prettier in real life. It's clicky for a bigger picture.

Even though it measures 94 x 112 inches, it's made very little impression on my scraps box. Before I tidied up last night I put together a back. It's made up from three old sheets! Yes three!! LOL The flat part of the valance sheet I used to sash the top, another whole piece and a slice from a third. I'll have to see if I can replenish my store of recycled cotton sheets. Not so easy in these days of quick drying poly cotton. I have one spare star block which will become the label. I fell asleep last night dreaming about how to quilt this thing. Circles, CIRCLES? My muse wants circles. I suppose the fact that one or two corner stones continued to misbehave, means that straight lines are out and I'll go with circles. But first, I have to layer and pin it.

It's day 2 of eleven days off, and already I have that huge sense of achievement.

First Border is Done.

So the first round of border is done. I finished this off on Friday.

I eventually managed to get most of the corner stones to play nicely.
There are still one or two that are a little off and one which is waaay off! Tough, it will have to stay that way. I left it alone all weekend and spent time with my family. Bliss. Today is a day off work, the first of many and I have plans.

I've been back into my scrap box digging about trying to decide what to do for the next border.
I think......maybe some sashed four patches, hmm, time to do some sums and see if I can get that to work. Though last night I was thinking of just a whole bunch of 2.5 inch squares, 3 maybe 4 deep all around, that would be a bit easier to tweak if things don't fit perfectly.

Seeing Stars.

I can't get far enough away to get a picture of the whole thing. Maybe once it's all joined up I can find two volunteers to hold it up somewhere. The lil white blobs are my row markers.

It looks much brighter and more colourful in real life, but I had to use the camera flash here tonight, it's freezing and dark, so the curtains are closed up tight. The star rows are joined, this is me playing with corner stones, I'm about to start sewing again.

P.S. Arrrrrgh! The corner stones are driving me mad. I'm spending lots of time unpicking, they just don't want to play nice. I've given up for the night. I'll get back to them tomorrow.

Still Starry Eyed.

I really enjoyed myself making all these stars. Here they are, all 64 of them all stacked up.

I had a dig through my recycled stash and came up with a valanced bed sheet. The gathered valance trim seems to go on and on for miles, just what I need.
After spending an age removing and pressing it, I cut sashing strips,
loads of 'em.
And now I'm attaching them. This part seems tedious after making up the stars, with all that jumping up from the machine to press them and line up the next piece, the sooner I get this part done, the sooner I can get to the pieced border. Apart from a 7x9 layout and a pieced border I'm not committing to anything because as is often the way with me, I'm not following a pattern, just making it up as I go along.
