Another week has passed!

The weeks are flying by, it's only 49 days until the wedding and the bride is still losing weight!
So I won't be doing anything to her dress until the last minute I suspect.
Never mind, that gives me more time to do my own thing. As you know I've had a chest infection and really wasn't up to much for a few days there. I did try to do some work on my machine but gave it up. More about that later, I ended up sitting in my comfy chair with my EPP. It was an easy go to while I wasn't firing on all cylinders. It has grown and the top edge has appeared, even the corners, it will not get any wider than this.

I now want to make it larger than originally planned, so had a dig through the blue stash for some more fabrics.....Then went shopping! I don't have a pic though so you will have to wait a little while to see those. I have already cut some and made up some blocks with them.

Another project that got some love this week, once I was feeling better was a scrappy quilt top completed earlier this year. Do you recall the crumb quilt top?

I loaded it on to the frame on a lovely sunny day. Well it was sunny some of the time. I even had the door open and had fresh air while I quilted.

I used my meander panto.
The backing fabric is a duvet cover that I found at a local store, chopped up I can back two quilts with it. I couldn't resist those bright swirls.
The binding is bright and colourful too.
It was leftovers from the dinosaur quilt.
Very happy with how it has turned out. I have several more in the pile. LOL

Today was a big day. I had my ruler class at patchwork club.
What a fun day. We all had to bring along a premade block to work on, there was also a layered fat quarter for practicing. I tried three times to make my block, but I was ill at the time. Maybe it was that, or maybe just all of those bias edges but I ended up with two very wavy blocks. Then I pulled out freezer paper and used it to help control those edges.
Success.
Not the best image I'm afraid, but I had a go with lots of different rulers and worked a different pattern in each patch of the block.
I've come away with a shopping list. LOL
There are more rulers and patterns I would like to try. I have some table topper/runner size pieces that need to be quilted so plenty to practice on. Chatting with Janice earlier today we agreed that some QAYG blocks would be great for practice too.
There were only 4 of us attending the class. Sadly two sewing machines packed their bags and refused to work! One in the first hour, the second after lunch. Oh dear, I do hope the repairs are not too expensive.
This lovely is Amanda's  sample. She was delighted with her circles on the right.
Her whole piece is amazing.
Nola's sewing machine was the one that stopped working after lunch. She had made a great start though and has gone home full of ideas and inspiration.
Finally, I snapped a quick picture of one of Kaye's sample pieces.
Love it. I wish I had taken more pictures of her samples, they were amazing.

Hopefully I'll get a little time to sew tomorrow but I'm only hoping at this point as it is Master Torstein's 4th birthday. There will be roast chicken, a yummy looking chocolate cake made by Grandad and of course presents.

Here's to next week. I hope it's a good one.

Some goings on...

I mentioned at the end of my last post that a nasty head cold had gotten a hold of me. Turned out to be nastier than I thought. By Thursday evening it had settled into a chest infection. Ugh!
Coughing and sneezing is no fun, but the chesty cough I have now is worse. Lets hope that two inhalers, tablets and a nasty tasting syrup can fix me up!
While keeping up to date with my boss she cheerily commented that she hoped I could at least get some sewing time in.
I did do a little crochet and on a brighter day had a go at making the sampler block for my rulerwork class. I had a few trials and made some amazing waves! In the end I pulled out my freezer paper in an effort to control the bias edges.
That's better. And I have enough of these fabrics left to make another block and possibly a pieced border. I'll see how the class goes.
These fabrics were in the big bundle I acquired last year. More sample pieces so not all the same size.
After the issues I had with that I decided that something requiring less brain power might be the way to go. So out came my trusty EPP. Blue Lanterns has grown, from this....
To this. Sorry about the wrinkles, it doesn't look that bad in real life.
I need to spend some time preparing more papers and making more blocks.  I think I'll be doing some of that today.
Something that has not progressed is my cross stitch. That requires way too much brain power. I did promise an update though. Last time I showed it the bottom half of the writing was complete.
The top half is now also done, just the vines and lots of beads to go.
Hopefully that won't take too long. Then I just need to decide if I will frame this one, or make a soft wall hanger with it.

The bride tells me she is still losing weight!
And we have the fabric for the flower girls dress.
I'll make a start soon.

I've been spending more time than is good for my bank account perusing pinterest.
I've found two large wool felt applique projects that I would love to do and countless other projects and ideas have made their way into my pinned folders. Oh dear.
I'd better get on and complete a few things first.

That's been my quiet week. I'm off to cut and glue baste.
I hope every one Spring Stitchin' in the Scrub is having fun.

Tuesday 3 September 2024

That wasn't planned.

So on Sunday 1st of September, after the grand children had left, I went digging  for fabrics suitable for making blocks for my ruler class in a couple of weeks.
Then I went down a rabbit hole chasing not one but three squirrels!
You see I came across a bunch of fabric panels and samples that I acquired around about this time last year and I decided to have some fun.
I have no idea what this collection was called. It was fabric samples in lots of different sizes. I cut them down to 10 inch squares, found a couple of greys that might make a border.
Consulted with Janice and we agreed on the paler of the two, then used the off cuts and smaller pieces as an outer border.
Tada!
The whole thing took just over an hour to complete.
That was fun, I want to make another. So out came a panel, I had already stashed a good border fabric with it.
I made the side borders wider than the top and bottom, just to make it a little wider.
That one took about 20 minutes. Great size for a cot.
If I can find a good match I might look at making some applique to go over the flowers and or leaves.
And finally....
I got to work on another panel . I've had this one since about June in 2022, it took me a while to acquire the matching fabrics for the borders.
I got the inner border on before I quit on Sunday and got to work on the outer border on Monday morning.
None of these quilt tops is particularly fancy, there are no pretty blocks. The fabrics and the panels do all the talking. They all finished at about cot size, I'll get around to quilting them soon.
None of them were on my September goals list, but hey, they happened. LOL
There is one more panel in the stash.
I'll get to it another day.

Another thing that wasn't planned is the nasty head cold that has a hold of me.
Sore throat, snotty nose the lots.
No work for me this week. But no play either.
Maybe I'll pull out my crochet. Something mindless.
