I've noticed on a few blogs recently that people are posting images of their earlier quilts and chatting about what they have learned along the way. I thought it would be fun to join in. I must say I had fun going back through my photo files in my laptop and revisited some quilts which I gave away.

I know a few of you will remember my very first efforts at patchwork and quilting as it was only very recent. I made 'Loulees Plates' in 2007. I loved these big plate blocks and still do like big blocks and applique.
It was made in the quilt as you go style, which I would use again and in fact recently did for the Fan quilt. More recently, as in last month! I finished this little beauty, mostly pieced, though the butterfly bodies are appliqued. I really enjoyed working on this little wall quilt and want to make more of them.
What have I learned? Loads, loads and loads of things, and I'm still learning. Each new project teaches me a new technique, or a better way of achieving something. I have learned that I prefer applique to piecing, but if I take my time and fiddle my piecing work does turn out better! I've learned that there is a whole world of kind and generous people out there willing to share knowledge, skills, experience, designs, stash and friendship. Most importantly I've learned to relax and enjoy my hobby.

You know some of my plans for whats next.....I have some BOM projects on the go, DD Kay and I started a joint project at the weekend and my much talked about but rarely seen denim quilt seems to be becoming a joint effort too! I have a beautiful bunch of fabrics just arrived from Fatquartershop and have a great project in mind for those. Hunney says I need to make some throw quilts for the sofas, seasonal ones! I pulled a blanket off one of them the other day to wash it and put a very wintry quilt in its place! LOL Oh and I want to make some seasonal wall quilts too, not to mention all the things I want to make as gifts for others. So it's safe to say I'm hooked and have plenty of things to keep me busy in the future.

I wasn't part of blogland then, so it is lovely to look at some of the other quilts you've made. It seems the more you do, the more you want to do. I know my list of things to do never seems to get any shorter

Your blue Dresden plates are so gorgeous! Blue and white is always good, and the asymmetrical arrangement is quite unusual.
